Rapper E-40 may soon hold the key to his hometown.

Earl Stevens professionally known as professionally as E-40, is slated to receive a key to his hometown of Vallejo, CA.

This passed Tuesday (Oct 10) the Vallejo City Council considered the motion at its regular meeting.

Known for hits such as “U and Dat,” “Muscle Cars,” and “Tell Me When to Go,” the 55-year-old multiplatinum-selling artist has made his Bay Area origins a recurring theme in his music. E-40, a record-holder for most solo album entries by a hip-hop artist on the Billboard 200 charts, is also a member of the rap supergroup Mount Westmore, alongside Too Short, Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube.

Beyond his musical achievements, E-40 founded "Sick Wid It", an independent record label, and established a successful adult beverage empire. In 2021, he launched a packaged food line called “Goon With the Spoon” with Snoop Dogg. The proposal underlines his philanthropic efforts in Vallejo, including support for local schools, youth programs and community kitchens.

While he no longer lives in the city, E-40 was raised by his mother in Vallejo’s Hillside neighborhood on the 1300 block of Magazine Street.

Erik Rzomp, the executive assistant to the mayor, praised Stevens in a letter recommending the proclamation as an accomplished individual and a hometown ambassador.

“His accomplishments and strides in the hip-hop and business community serve as an example for the next generation of leaders in Vallejo to follow,” Rzomp wrote.
